A lemon grove with views of sea & Etna – agritourist apartments in stunning location, run by a lovely family. Clients loveLa Gabriella’s fantastic views of Etna and Gabriella’s amazing (and potent!!) Limoncello, made from her own lemons.

In a wonderful spot, overlooking lemon groves to the sea, this working fruit farm is a delight. Approx 4km north of Acireale, less than 1km from the nearest village and about 2km from the beach, the 4 hectare La Gabriella agriturismo is surrounded by the lush greenness of lemon groves and orchards of oranges, bananas and other fruit. Mount Etna towers up behind it and views of it are spectacular.

La Gabriella’s well cared for agritourist apartments are set amongst the lemon groves or around the main house, with its large terrace, covered area, table and benches and some lovely views, over the orchards, to the sea. In the extensive grounds are the barbecue and seating areas, and a wonderful sun terrace, with deck chairs, umbrellas, sunbeds and outside shower. Soak up the sun whilst looking over La Timpa Nature Reserve to the sea, in the distance; stroll through the lemon groves (approx 1km) and La Timpa; just sit and enjoy views to Etna and the sea – just perfect! The communal “reading room “, in the characterful “palmento ” (wine press and store), is lovely and comfortable, too.

Gabriella and Bruno speak little or no English, but they laugh and smile lots! They have two sons, Andrea and Fabrizio, and it is Fabrizio and his wife Veronica, who now take the main responsibility for running La Gabriella. Both speak English well and they actually live there with their son, Bruno Junior, and the twin babies, Carlo and Sofia. Discreet hosts, they are extremely warm and friendly, really lovely people and very dear friends of ours.

In the past, Fabrizio and Veronica have invited guests to a typical Sicilian dinner. Served on the terrace of their own home, they cooked and waited on table – they did everything, in fact. A real treat and great fun, past clients have loved these evenings together. Post-twins (!!), they are not sure that they will be able to do these with any regularity and we can sympathise with that! Nevertheless, we have our fingers crossed that they will do some and, if they do, go and enjoy.

La Gabriella is another very special spot, surrounded by lush vegetation and with views to the sea and Etna.

Acireale is spectacularly sited, above the rocky shore and surrounding lemon groves, 16km north of Catania, 36km south of Taormina, and near Etna. Famous for its puppet theatre and fine Baroque buildings, it is a pleasant and compact town to potter around, and absorb its typically Sicilian atmosphere. Just 5 minutes from the motorway, it makes an ideal base for exploring Sicily.

Below us the glossy green leaves of the lemon grove stretched down to the bright Sicilian coast, while behind us Mount Etna posed under a cap of white smoke.” Helen Beatty wrote for Homes & Holidays
