CONGRATULATIONS, YVONNE & SANTI! Il Glicine has been awarded the “Case & Country” magazine’s “Best Agritourism of Charm” award.
Wlove the tranquillity and peace; the sheer beauty of the location; the amazing landscape; the lack of pretension (throw away the brief cases, suits, stilettos and make-up, and enjoy a respite from the workday things!); the chance to totally unwind. We all love the cottages, Santi and Yvonne, her fantastic vegetarian cooking, and the dogs. We could go on forever……. A perfect haven for couples, wanting to relax, this is a truly rural and rustic setting. Yvonne and Santi are very special, very inobtrusive, but very happy to chat about the delights of Sicily and the local area and many guests have become their great friends.
Near Piazza Armerina, Il Glicine is a 4 hectare organic fruit and vegetable farm with two cottages and a pool, in an enchanting setting, surrounded by lush green vegetation, in the very heart of Sicily. About 12km from Piazza Armerina, in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the landscape is breathtakingly beautiful and the views, through trees and shrubs, are splendid.
Ideal and only for couples, this is a perfect haven for getting away from it all, in a dream location, and there is a fantastic price if you take BOTH cottages – so go with friends. Not for those, who seek sophistication or do not love rural and rustic environments, as one client said, this is “a real place “, difficult to find in the hurly-burly of modern life. Santi and his British wife, Yvonne, are special. Our great friends, they live with their dogs (Billy, Chutney, Carlson and Pippin), cats (Miriam and Freda), hens and ducks. Very much at one with nature, the whole environment is a product of their personalities and lifestyle – it is a joy to be able to share that.
The pair of semi-detached agritourist cottages is set apart from the main house. A mix of traditional and modern, the cottages have Sicilian flavour and homely charm, and they fit perfectly into their rural environment. A steep, stepped stone path leads up, past Yvonne and Santi’s house, to the pool (up the hill about 100m). Filled with Santi’s very own fresh spring water, and warmed by the glorious Sicilian sunshine, the pool is immersed in greenery and is a very calming place to be.
Piazza Armerina is a delightful and attractive town, with interesting churches, a cathedral and a castle, as well as some lovely shops and a lively weekly market. Close by is Sicily’s famous Imperial Roman Villa, with its exquisite mosaics. Within easy reach are Caltagirone, full of Baroque and famous for ceramics; Aidone and Morgantina, a 6th century BC Greek settlement; and ancient and spectacular Enna, almost 1km above sea level, and steeped in myth and legend. Piazza Armerina, 20 minutes from the motorway, gives easy access to the north coast and Palermo, or the east coast, with Etna, Catania and Siracusa.
“We really enjoyed our stay. Il Glicine is in a perfect spot, beautiful countryside dotted with interesting towns. We loved the well-equipped kitchen and generous bathroom, and Will fell in love with Chutney the dog!!” Will & Gaia, London
“Thank you – Il Glicine worked its magic in enabling total relaxation. This is a wonderful place and Yvonne and Santi’s hospitality and kindness permeates the whole experience.” Elizabeth & Mark, Cheadle
“We really don’t know where to begin! This has been such a wonderful trip, our second to Il Glicine. Yvonne and Santi, you are so kind and welcoming, we have so enjoyed our conversations and your recommendations. This was our fourth time in Sicily and we still wonder at its history, culture, food and wine. This time, we visited new places as well as our favourites. Morgantina was amazing, the museum at Aidone wonderful. We loved Enna, Caltagirone, Sperlinga and of course Noto, Palermo and Syracuse. I know we will miss the gentle atmosphere, piece of heaven that you have here.” Taras & Oksana, Ontario
“Being anxious English folk, we took a while to unwind but, once we did, it was simple to enjoy the pleasures of Il Glicine. The pool was a special luxury and a quick early swim often turned into a lazy dip or two. It is a great place to do nothing, or from which to explore Sicily’s secrets – we did both. It is thanks to Yvonne & Santi’s caring that such holidays can still exist – many thanks for your kindness. Un posto meraviglioso!” Jane & Tim, Leics
“Il Glicine worked its magic and for the first time ever we did not feel the need to rush here and there, but we totally relaxed, enjoyed the beautiful views and refreshing swims in the pool. We shall miss our doggy friends. Thank you, Yvonne & Santi, for your wonderful hospitality and fantastic meals. We feel really sad to leave – Il Glicine is really a very special place and Yvonne & Santi are very very special people.” Wendy & Peter, West Hardey, Surrey
